The Vision: Solving a Costly Problem
LumaNail was founded on a very simple, powerful vision: Can we solve the roofing industry's most persistent and costly problem while building a better nail? We exist to stop the profit drain and liability headaches caused by unnecessary jobsite cleanup and return visits for loose fasteners. Our patented LumaNail is the answer—a direct result of three individuals from vastly different professional worlds coming together to engineer a smarter, more efficient way to secure a roof.

Engineered Without Compromise—and With Better Performance

The idea for LumaNail wasn't born in a boardroom; it was inspired by a common, costly frustration. Mike Rains, a civil engineer, heard about the time and money roofers wasted driving back to job sites just to pick up stray, loose nails. Mike set to work experimenting with coiled roofing nails. He collaborated with Jason, an intellectual property attorney with an entrepreneurial background, to develop, and ultimately protect, the final, reliable prototype.

They began by focusing on visibility through environmental contrast and luminescence (it glows under UV light). Crucially, they worked under a strict mandate: there could be no tradeoff in quality or reliability. LumaNail had to perform perfectly. The customers’ finished roofs were, and remain, the number one priority. Eventually, the LumaNail was born and subsequently fully protected as domestic and foreign intellectual property.

Fortuitously, the proprietary coating developed for visibility delivered a massive benefit: improved structural integrity. This coating provides superior protection against the elements, advanced resistance to rust, and a stronger pull-through rating for better performance in high-wind conditions. LumaNail is not just “the orange nail” - it is the highest quality, finest roofing nail available.

A Unique Foundation for Growth

Every founder held a deep, personal understanding of the problem. Although not roofers by trade, they had all experienced nails turning up where they should not, from their own vehicle tires to their family's feet. This was clearly a pain point that needed fixing. Peter, a successful restauranteur and nightclub owner with extensive residential and commercial roofing experience from the customer side, immediately recognized the innovation's value and provided the critical first investment, along with invaluable insights and expertise from a business perspective.

Crucially, LumaNail has been entirely self-funded and bootstrapped by its founders since Peter's initial investment. Their commitment is solely to the integrity of the product and to providing real, measurable value. Peter’s capital allowed the team to find manufacturing partners to bring the price of the LumaNail from a premium product at a premium price to a premium product at a competitive price.

The LumaNail was officially announced at the International Roofing Expo. The team quickly expanded its reach by adding industry influencer Drew Itnyre, who, with deep personal and professional connections to the trade, recognized the product’s potential to disrupt and improve the industry for contractors and homeowners alike.

Since then, LumaNail has secured manufacturing, expanded contacts, and pleased roofers and homeowners across 49 states and internationally.
